For many years, AC's letterhead carried the words 'On Air Ministry Approved List.' Much aviation subcontracting was carried out from the start of WW2, and work for (among others) Fairey Aviation continued into the fifties. Perhaps the last major contract was for tailplanes for the Fairey Gannet. Any memories or anecdotes of this little-publicised part of AC's work would be most welcome. This particular Gannet, XA508, is preserved at the Midland Air Museum at Baginton Airport - well worth a visit if you are in the Coventry area. |
